Winter Formal message from our Principal Mr. Newell:
Hello, East high school. I have a few comments about the upcoming winter formal tomorrow night. One of my favorite things about our school culture is how welcoming and accepting we are as a school. We have an excellent community here at East where each and every one of you is valued as an important individual of this community. Everyone who walks through our doors is valued and respected as a person with the freedom to be who they want to be without judgment. We care about each and every one of you and we have an environment where people feel welcomed and comfortable. The dance environment needs to have the same welcoming and supportive feel as our school community. The winter formal is a time for a great evening and fun with your friends. There is the cafeteria where you can sit down and talk with your friends and there is the dance floor. On the dance floor, everyone should feel welcomed and comfortable, just like at school. And I will say that grinding is not something that a lot of people are comfortable with. It is not something that we would permit here at school so we will be warning people at the formal to choose a different dance style than grinding. The goal is for everyone to feel welcomed and comfortable on the dance floor. It does not matter if you have no rhythm like me of if you can floss like Mr. Edwards or if you have moves like Jagger, everyone deserves a spot on the dance floor. All of you can have a great time and we can do that by dancing appropriately. The winter formal is a fun and enjoyable time to make some good memories with your friends and I hope to see you there.
Take care and carry on O’s.
There is a special call NHS (National Honor Society) meeting on Monday at 7:15 to discuss our Christmas project.
East Men’s Swimming still has an opening to become a team member. The team is also looking for anyone interested in diving. Stop by the pool after school for more info. Despite rumors, you do not have to be at A.M. morning practices.
