Tree Replacement

Beginning Monday, March 19, 2012, a contractor will begin removal of the (48) remaining littleleaf lindens surrounding the school building, making way for replacement planting that has been made possible by a matching grant recently awarded to BCSC by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Community and Urban Forestry section.

The trees had been declining for some time, and have long outlived the 30-year life expectancy of a city tree growing in a confined root area.  With the exception of some younger infill replacements, the planting dates back to the original construction of the building as I understand it.

Replanting has not yet been scheduled, but it could be this May at the soonest and spring 2013 at the latest.  The trees around the building have become unsafe as well as unsightly.  As we get closer to planting, we will share information about the species of tree we have chosen to replace the lindens.  Please contact us with any questions you may have.
