As we make our way through the first year of senior project, know that the dates and assignments are subject to adjustment.

*Items listed in all CAPS are associated with a document, form, template or instructions in the Senior Project Project Briefcase on Echo.

  1. Students attend COUNCIL with RECOMMENDATION for group senior projects.
  2. Seniors concede on major projects the class wants to undertake.
  3. Students without recommendations or who are undecided about projects attend COUNCIL in order to “shop” projects and then align themselves with a project.

Projects should fall in one of the CATEGORIES below:

  • Service to School
  • Service to Community
  • Service to Humanity
  • Service to Culture
  • Service to Professionalism

Senior Projects Suggestions must be:

  • Collaborative (Groups of 4-8)
  • Aligned with the SWLOC’s
  • Doable by May of 2012
  • Memorable (senior class should leave its mark on the world)
  • Revolutionary

Proposal

  1. Students receive ENTRY DOCUMENT regarding expectations of GROUP FORMATION; INDIVIDUAL EXPECTATIONS; PROPOSAL.
  2. Students establish “cohort” group 4-8 members to complete senior project.
  3. Each student creates a PROPOSAL which indicates how he or she will fulfill a role within the project.
  4. Groups define the parameters of their project.
  5. Each group member begins REFLECTIVE JOURNAL.

 

·   Facilitated through first two weeks of Senior Advisory

Present Proposal @ CFG Meeting

Each group will assemble a Critical Friends Group (CFG) to present proposals to and to then be used throughout the project. Members should include:

·         Group’s advisory facilitator

·         At least two “experts” in the area

·         At least one parent or community member

·         At least two underclassmen

 

CFG Meeting #1

1.         Groups select PROTOCOL to use to elicit feedback at first CFG meeting

2.         Determine regular meeting times

3.         Hold CFG meeting to elicit feedback on proposals

4.         Complete Reflective Discussion & Journal

Rubric Creation

CFG

Groups create AGREEMENTS and generate a CONTRACT.

SENIOR COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES are appointed from each group.
 
. Representatives from each project group will:
  • Ensure equity among projects.
  • Act as liaisons among projects.
  • Plan and organize events, such as presentations.
  • Communicate with Senior Advisory Facilitators.
  • Act as mediators when groups have conflict they cannot resolve.

Each group will establish BENCHMARKS that reflect each student’s role in the group. The group presents BENCHMARK schedule to CFG.

  • Each Benchmark will require a PROJECT REVIEW to be completed with the CFG and other stakeholders
  • Benchmarks should:
    • Include major milestones that ensure successful and timely project completion
    • Articulate specifics on how physical project will be completed
    • Plan for final Showcase
    • Indicate method for publication of work/written
    • component

Quarter 2 & 3

Benchmark & Reflection

Throughout the 2nd and 3rd Quarters, the focus of advisory switches to Internship and Financial Planning.

 

Senior Project Benchmarks should continue to be met during these quarters. To ensure groups stay on schedule, they should present their progress via a BENCHMARK REVIEW.

 

Senior Project Teams should have established their benchmarks and will schedule four BENCHMARK REVIEWS, which will include:

·         Individual Reporting on assigned Benchmark

·         Individual TIME CARD

·         Whole group discussion on progress

·         Plan for staying on course or a solution for the problems the group has encountered

·         Correction plan for not meeting Benchmarks

 

Each student should complete a REFLECTIVE JOURNAL every other week through the two quarters
