• Who is this math nerd...

    Melissa Hatton
I grew up in Terre Haute, IN and graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo High School in 2003. I then attended and graduated from Indiana University - Bloomington in May 2007. I majored in Secondary Mathematics Education with minors in Psychology and Mathematics. I was involved with the swim club, the Navigators Organization, and the Office of Orientation Programs. On 1 May 2010 I married a fabulous man, Ben Hatton. We welcomed our first child, Lydia, on 15 April 2015 and are expecting our second daughter, Sarah, on 28 August 2017. We enjoy spending time with our friends, family, and small group from church.
This is my eleventh year teaching (SAY WHA??), tenth at Northside MS after one year at North HS. I was originally inspired by my 8th grade Algebra teacher, Pamela Rogers, and have always been driven to (blessed with patience to) work with middle school students.
I teach three 90-minute periods of Pre-Algebra. I have high expectations for all of my students because they are extremely capable, with respect and dilligence being the most important qualities in my classroom. After eight years as an assistant coach of the Columbus North bullfrogs, I'm taking time off to spend time with my husband and daughters, though I miss it very much.
