New Parent Newsletter

We will be serving desserts at the Christmas Extravaganza. Because we are hoping for a big crowd and each attendee will get 2 desserts, we are relying on every family to donate something. It could be a pan of brownies, a pie, a cheesecake, a special Christmas dessert, cookies, etc. We are asking that everything be homemade or purchased from a bakery. Preferably desserts with no nuts, but if you bring something with nuts, you MUST let us know! Also, please write the name of your dessert on a notecard or piece of paper that we can put by the dessert so others will know what it is.
You can bring the desserts to the East cafeteria beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15th. If you send something with your student, please have them give it to Ms. Sweeney in the band office. Please let her know if it is something that needs to be refrigerated. If your dessert is something that needs to be cut into servings, please DO NOT cut it yourself! There will be a group of people who will cut and plate the desserts and we will want to keep the serving sizes uniform.
We are asking for everyone’s participation to keep costs down for the event. The Christmas Extravaganza is the only fundraiser we have that specifically benefits our Scholarship Fund. The more money that can go towards the fund and not to the costs of the event is beneficial to all of us.
    Thank you!

SOLO AND ENSEMBLE on Saturday 2/2/2013 - Look for VolunteerSpot Opportunities soon!

Parents, students, grandparents, neighbors ... It takes 50+ people pershift (morning and afternoon) to effectively operate this event.

Specific volunteer jobs and locations will be scheduled later, but jobsinclude:

    ·        Warm-up Room Monitor (supervise performing students; no skills required; bring a book to read)

    ·        Performance Room Door Monitor (guard performance room doors; control the flow of performance schedule)

    ·        Runner (running to get performers for the Door Monitor)

    ·        Secretary (assist the judge with anything needed; recalculate score sheets)

    ·        Concessions

    ·        Students are required to volunteer, but they must work and stay in assigned area. Students will not be allowed to switchjobs once assigned and will be asked to leave if they are not working (have fun, but no goofing off).

Coordinators Needed:  Hosting for the Judges

This is a fair share event.  But keep the best reasons to host this event in mind ... We don't have to travel to the contest.  We meet lots of great people.  We hear a lot of wonderful music.
    EXTRAVAGANZA on Thursday 2/21/2013

What is the Extravaganza?  It is a dinner / performance that will showcase all of our performing groups including the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Winter Percussion and Winter Guard that is open to the community as well as band families. In addition to the performances from all these groups, we will also be serving dinner and have a silent auction. This event was created years ago to help raise money for our scholarship fund.

At a later date, you will have the opportunity to buy dinner tickets, however, right now we need help in securing donations for the Silent Auction.  Given that the Silent Auction can bring in significant funding for scholarships, we would like to have a separate coordinator(s) for this portion of the Extravaganza.  If you are interested in coordinating the Silent Auction, please email Kathy Bradley at kathy_bradley@integrated-thinking.com.

We are looking forward to another fun, exciting and successful evening with impressive performances from all our groups.
