The Importance of Attendance

Regular school attendance is mandated by Indiana State Law.  Regular attendance can improve your child"s grades and standardized test scores.  Talk to your children about the importance of school attendance.  Lead by example.  Your children need to see that you think attendance is important on the job.  Avoid scheduling doctor"s appointments and family trips during the school day.  Arriving at school on time is just as important.  A student who misses 10 minutes a day will miss 30 hours of instruction during the school year.

Please make every attempt to contact us whenever your child will not be in school for any reason.  If we do not receive a call or a note from you, your child will have an unexcused absence.  When he/she has 3 unexcused absences, you will receive a letter and information from ATTEND, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation"s attendance monitoring officer.   Further unexcused absences may result in a court hearing with the juvenile judge.

Reporting an Absence

The Attendance/Guidance office number is 812-376-4386.  Please call this number when calling your child in ill.  If your child is absent for any reason we need to have either a phone call or email by a parent or legal guardian.  If you would like to email your child's absence in, you must email from the email account we have listed for that child.  For security reasons we will not accept absence requests from any other email.  If you do not have an email on file with the school, you may send a letter with the correct email address with your child to the Guidance Office. The letter must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.  The email for attendance reporting is:  CMSattendance@bcsc.k12.in.us

It causes less confusion and interruption of class time if you could please send a signed note in with your child to the Guidance office before school if the child will need to be dismissed early for an appointment that day.  The Guidance office will issue them a pass to dismiss 5 minutes prior to your pickup time to allow them to sign out and meet you in front of the school.  Otherwise notify the Guidance Office at least 2 hours in advance of any appointment to allow time for a pass to be sent to them later in the day when an office runner is available.  Thank you.
