"What is Speech Team"?
East's Speech team competes in speech competitions characterized by individuals competing in a variety of different events. These events span the areas of public speaking, acting, reading and interpretation. Organized competition takes place both on the high school and collegiate level.
Through the forum of public speaking, students learn to communicate effectively in a competitive environment that stresses logic, quick thinking, breadth of knowledge, and ultimately, persuasion.
Eligibility is open to any East student—regardless of grade level. No prior experience is necessary.
Tournament events range from informative and impromptu speaking to the oral interpretation of literature. The team meets to practice frequently, and there is no mandatory level of participation.

SPEECH TEAM 2013 NEWS
CEHS Speech Team placed 2nd at the IHSFA Sectional #7 on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Greensburg High School.
This is the best sectional finish we have had since the team started back up in 2007!

SPEECH TEAM 2012 AWARDS
The Columbus East High School Speech Team competed in the IHSFA Sectional #6 on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The following students placed and will advance to the IHSFA State Finals on Saturday, March 24, at Fishers High School.
Katie Hollenkamp, 2nd Place, Discussion
Andrew Henrichsen, 6th Place, Discussion
Emma Alexander, 4th Place, Original Oratory
Hunter Foist, 7th Place, Broadcasting
Patrick Foley, 7th Place, Declamation (Oratorical Interp)
Mariann Fant and Tessa Hirons, 7th Place, Memorized Duo
Also, Katie Miller placed as third alternate for the State Finals in Broadcasting.
The team, overall, placed 6th out of 13 schools... just one placing shy of receiving a coveted sectional trophy.
SPEECH TEAM 2011 AWARDS

The CEHS Speech Team state qualifiers competed at the IHSFA State Speech Meet on Saturday, March 26, 2011. One of our qualifiers advanced to the semifinal rounds--Andrew Henrichsen placed 18th overall out of 49 entries in Discussion, earning him a ribbon as a state semifinalist. It was a long but fun day and effectively ends a great season for this year. Thanks to all supporters of Columbus East Speech Team! We look forward to another great year next year.
