My name is Courtney Karns. I’m very excited to be starting my first year at Columbus Signature Academy - Lincoln Campus. I look forward to helping make music an everyday part of your student’s life.
A little bit about me - I was born in North Pole, Alaska, a suburb of Fairbanks in the heart of the state. After graduating from North Pole High School I went on to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where I got my Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. While I was there I was able to tour China with the Women’s Concert Chorale, perform in an opera, sing with the one of the country’s top college jazz bands, and work with some wonderful educators who got me ready for the wonderful project based learning system used at Lincoln. After graduation my husband and I moved to Indiana so he could pursue a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies at Indiana University. We are continuing to get to know Columbus and love tips about things to see and do here. In my free time I enjoy reading, working out, traveling (especially to National Parks), and watching re-runs of the Mary Tyler Moore show. I would love to have lots of parent and community involvement this year so whether you sing, play an instrument, or just enjoy listening it would be great to have you help out in the classroom or with our ‘extra’ musical activities.
