2017 - 2018 Scholarships Administered by the
Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation
Louise J. and Wells H. Fish Scholarship: Educators with a combined total of 75 years teaching experience in Indiana and Florida, Louise and Wells were committed, generous and hard working teachers who touched many lives during their careers. Louise additionally had the distinction of being a founding member of the Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation in 1955. Established in memory of Louise and Wells in May of 2008 by family members, the scholarship fund will provide a one-time financial award of $500 to a graduating North and a graduating East senior each year who demonstrate a financial need, plan to major in education at a post secondary institution, and possess the character traits that Louise and Wells exemplified. The guidance department at each school will choose the recipient from nominations made at each school.
Hazel McKain Scholarship: Originally established by contributions from Jean McKain Schoff and John McKim, M.D., the Hazel McKain Scholarship Fund provides a one-time financial award of $500 to a North High School student with a financial need pursuing higher education in the health care field at a vocational or trade school, nursing school, college or university.
Jean McClellan Scholarship: Established in 2007 by her children, this fund honors Jean McClellan, retired educator, community volunteer and author. The Jean McClellan Scholarship Fund provides a one-time financial award of $500 to a graduating North and a graduating East senior who plan to continue their education at a post secondary institute of higher education who exemplify the character values of caring, self-discipline, and determination that Jean McClellan lived by each day. The guidance department at each high school determines the process by which the scholarship recipient is chosen from nominations made at each school. The financial award is issued to the higher education institution each student attends.
Bill Stearman Scholarship: This fund was established by the friends and supporters of Coach Bill Stearman upon his retirement from teaching and coaching in 1995 in recognition of his 47 years of service to education. The objectives of the Bill Stearman Scholarship Fund are to recognize and honor a senior student at a Columbus high school who has a defined financial need and exemplifies the following characteristics so long recognized and admired in Mr. Stearman: Outstanding character and attitude; Community service; Leadership skills; Extra and co-curricular participation; Well-rounded academic record. There is a selection committee convened by the superintendent with representation from the high schools. The award is for $1000 and will include a name on plaque.
Taylorsville Bears Scholarship: The Taylorsville Bears Scholarship was established in 2016 and initially funded by the Taylorsville Student Council & PBIS Committee. The main purpose of the scholarship is to help a graduating senior in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation who attended Taylorville Elementary School for at least two years. . The scholarship will be based on leadership skills and/or academic merit and/or financial need and/or athletic talents.
Schmitt Rocket Scholarship - The Schmitt Rocket Scholarship was established in 2011 and initially funded by the Schmitt Parent/Teacher Committee. The main purpose of the scholarship is to help a graduating senior in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation who attended Lillian C. Schmitt Elementary School for at least two years to receive college, trade school or military enlistment funding. The scholarship will be based on leadership skills and/or academic merit and/or financial need and/or athletic talents. The recipient should be selected from a diverse student population that is representative of BCSC’s students.
Fodrea Falcon Scholarship: This fund was established in honor of Fodrea Community School which was an elementary neighborhood school for 37 years which closed in 2010. The PTO began the scholarship as a way to remember the school and its impact. The basis of selection will be to a senior who attended Fodrea Community School for at least one year and plans to attend college, junior college, trade school and or enlist in the military. The scholarship will be based on leadership skills and/or academic merit and/or financial need and/or athletic talents. The recipient should be selected from a diverse student population that is representative of BCSC’s students. The award is $500 for one BCSC senior in high school.
Toyota Industrial Equipment MFG., INC (TIEM) Scholarship - The main purpose of this scholarship is to help a graduating senior in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation who is planning to pursue a degree at Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus, IN. The scholarships ($1,500 each) will be awarded to a graduating senior from both Columbus North and Columbus East High Schools to help with expenses for attending Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus, IN. The basis of selection will be to a senior who is planning to pursue a degree in one of the following programs at Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus, IN:
