The Six Strategies for Success |

These six strategies were identified by our community and business leaders as being important life skills that are necessary for high school graduates to possess in order to be successful and productive citizens in society. By completing all the requirements for graduation, including the required courses, ISTEP, and the Senior Project, students will have had opportunities to demonstrate competence in all six Strategies for Success. Columbus North High School students will be: * Motivated Learners Our students will be able to effectively ask questions and seek feasible solutions to problems. They will become more independent through self-directed learning, and they will achieve their goals by setting priorities, displaying self control and persistence, monitoring their own progress, and taking acceptable and advantageous risks. * Effective Communicators Our student will clearly communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences using a variety of mediums. In order for our students to communicate in thoughtful ways, they will learn to listen and to comprehend what others are saying. They will be able to express themselves in educated, civil, and compassionate manners. *Confident and Empowered Learners Our students will effectively collect, evaluate, and analyze information from a variety of sources to effectively solve problems. They will recognize patterns, sequences, and relationships across different disciplines and be able to apply them to new situations. * Collaborative Workers Our students will bring people of diverse heritages and opinions together to learn, collaborate, and achieve goals. They will tolerate differences of opinion, be open to change, and understand and appreciate the different cultural and personal experiences others have to offer. * Responsible Contributors Our students will actively contribute to supportive relationships with family, co-workers, and the community by understanding that their choices will impact others and by seeing that by participating with others in their numerous and varied communities, they can effectively foster positive environments where larger lessons can be learned for the benefit of all. They will use sound moral reasoning and intellectual honesty and will understand the ethical consequences of their actions. * Quality Performers Our students will understand that they can manage their own education to achieve intended goals in a positive manner. They will value the importance of continuous training and development to improve their ability to reach their goals and dreams. They will access multiple information systems and technology to complete tasks that will reflect high quality and accuracy. |
