    All members (students and staff) of the PBiS committee meet monthly to review the previous month's discipline data and discuss stakeholder input.  After reviewing data, the group develops expectation reminders for students (and staff) by incorporating "booster shot lessons."  Below are examples of such lessons:
    Recent data had shown that dress code had become an issue in recent weeks.  The PBiS committee divided the student body into gender specific convocations.  The girls had a fashion show, displaying both examples (students) and non-examples (staff) to reinforce the PBiS dress code expectations.  Girls were shown that they can dress fashionably while still following the dress code. 
    Earlier in the semester, we noticed that students were "camping out" in the restrooms.  Some students would use their cell phones while there or would just socialize.  The large number of crowds in the area were leading to problems.  This group of teachers greeted students before first period one morning, reminding them not to "camp out" in the restroom!
    Our PBiS reward system is popular among the students.  These two students put together a commercial to show other students (via the web and morning video announcements) the procedure to enter their tickets into the weekly drawing for a PBiS prize.
    One item that our new students struggle with is knowing the procedure of the cafeteria.  When they aren't sure what choices to make, the process slows, and students don't have much time to eat and socialize. Then, they're late for class and don't eat a well-balanced lunch. This skit teaches the new students the procedure using familiar songs.
    Eighth graders know the cafeteria routine when they arrive the first day of school.  In this video, students are sent on a scavenger hunt around the lunch lines to find healthy choices like fruits and vegetables, napkins, and other items they may have "ignored" as 7th graders.
    Recent data showed that discipline problems were on the rise as 8th graders entered the Commons each morning.  Several staff members and students put together this special appearance by KE$HA to remind students of the expectations.  The lyrics that scroll across the bottom of the screen were written by students using the PBiS language.
    This video is from the first week of school.  The students (7th graders new to the school) were acting out examples and non-examples of hallway and classroom expectations.
    What Does PBiS "LOOK" like at Northside?

    Northside Middle School staff and students are committed to being a PBIS school.  The driving forces behind PBIS are to teach the students the expected behavior at Northside.  Here is what PBIS looks like at NMS:

    • Reinforcement:  Students earn white "tickets" for displaying the expected behaviors at NMS.  These tickets can be turned in for PBIS cards, which earn students special privileges throughout the building. 
    • All staff and students at Northside use common language when explaining PBIS expectations.  This allows for a large amount of continuity from classroom to classroom, ensuring a seamless day for the students.
    • The PBIS committee meets monthly to review staff feedback, alter PBIS lesson plans, and review discipline data.  This feedback and data determine what the PBIS committee focuses on next.
    What is a voice level at Northside?
    0 = Zero people can hear you.

    1 = Partner voice: Quiet voice. Only one person on each side can hear you.

    2 = Quiet Conversation voice: Several people within 5 ft of you can hear.

    3 = Speaker Voice: Use this voice when talking to large groups of people.

    4 = Outside Voice: Use this voice at recess.
