  • BCSC Statement re: Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, we will experience the Great American Total Solar Eclipse. Between approximately 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on this date, nearly 90% of the sun will become blocked by the moon.

On Monday, all BCSC schools will be in session and will operate at normal times. Information is being shared with all students regarding the danger of staring directly at the sun during the eclipse and they will be well supervised if outside during the event.

Each of our school buildings is approaching the day as an educational opportunity and is taking necessary precautions to ensure student safety. For specific information regarding plans for the day, please contact the building principal. Precautions will include the use of approved special purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or hand held solar viewers. Since the time frame for the eclipse includes the time that we will be transporting students, our school bus drivers will act accordingly and remind students of the potential damages of looking directly at the sun.

Elementary

  • Welcome to a new school year!

We want every student to have a positive learning experience and our dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff are here to lead the way.  Deeper learning is our commitment to individualized education.  Multiple pathways will engage the learner in obtaining knowledge, applying that knowledge, and making life-long learning an expectation.  Along with our ongoing work in continuous improvement, the Universal Design for Learning framework guides the strategic initiatives for the year and our student achievement outcomes overall.

A positive learning experience starts at home.  As a parent, we want you to be a part of your child’s education as well.  Studies show that students who do shared reading with parents on a regular basis are ultimately more successful and better prepared for their educational experience.  If you would like to be more involved in the education process, contact your school to find out about volunteer opportunities available.

Let’s have a great school year!
